Over the
last 3-4 weeks, I’ve been handing out Sleep in a Snap samples to everyone I know.
Little did I know, I was helping them with their health, in addition to
improving their sleep.
In June, I
wrote several posts with links to articles about how sleep impacts one’s
health. You can follow this link to read my June archived posts.
This past
Saturday, I got to listen to Paul Sullivan, Enhance International's Chief Scientific Officer, talk about the ingredients in Sleep
in a Snap. Paul went into depth about
each of our 3 ingredients. Below are my
notes and further research is posted below.
Melatonin - This is the first
ingredient absorbed in our tri-phasic approach to supplement delivery. Its main function is to help you fall asleep
easily. Our ingredients are on a thin
oral strip that you let dissolve into your mouth. This process allows the melatonin to bypass
the digestive system and go straight to the bloodstream. Most of the people that we survey after they
take Sleep in a Snap is that they begin to feel relaxed within a few minutes and
typically fall asleep around 20 minutes.
Melatonin is
secreted in the pineal gland and it decreases as we age. This is one of the reasons why many seniors
over 55 years of age have issues falling asleep. Melatonin is also a great antioxidant. Recent research shows that here are some of
the conditions associated with melatonin deficiency:
·
Accelerated
Aging
·
Brain Degenerative
Diseases (Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and Huntington’s)
·
Depression/Mood
Disorders
·
Increased
Cancer Risk (Breast and Colorectal)
·
Increased
Cardiovascular and Stroke Disease Risk
·
Insomnia
5-HTP - is the second ingredient in our delivery method. It helps the body remain calm and relaxes, so
if you do wake up in the middle of the night, it’s easier to fall asleep. 5-HTP increases the production of serotonin,
a neurotransmitter. It also increases
melatonin. It has been known to help
improve headaches, depression, PMS and even carbohydrate cravings.
L-theanine - is
the final and third ingredient used in Sleep in a Snap. It is an amino acid that comes from green tea
extract. It is known to improve Alpha
wave activity /production in the brain which allows for deep REM sleep. Your body repairs itself best during deep REM
sleep cycles. According to a 2008 study,
it was even shown to help reduce blood pressure. In a 2004 study it was shown to
“significantly reduce” body weight increase and fat accumulation.
So, as you can see, Sleep in a Snap is not only a great
product to help you fall asleep, stay asleep and wake up refreshed, it is also
a product that could have other positive side-affects with your overall
health!
